Karate for children has many benefits; most parents quickly see an improvement in both concentration and confidence. During lessons children will learn not just martial arts but key skills such as respect, perseverance and discipline. The emphasis in karate is on defensive action rather than aggression, and students are taught the importance of self control from the start of training.
Lessons are delivered through a mixture of fun games and exercises, along with individual work, partner work and pad work. Children are rewarded using positive discipline and taught using effective strategies for behaviour management. Each student has their own unique Progress Pathway to complete, earning stickers along the way through the demonstration of “black belt spirit” and encouraging self reflection.
“Sensei Hayley has been teaching me since I was five. I have learned lots and had loads of fun. I am a brown stripe and my goal now is to achieve my black belt before I go to secondary school.” (C. Venning, age 9)
